A TOP fund-raising cop is continuing his efforts for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice by running half-marathons while pushing a wheelbarrow to collect donations!
PC Damieon Pickles recently completed the tough Oldham Milltown to Moors half-marathon and a 10km fun run at Manchester’s Heaton Park while pushing the barrow.
He collected £400 from spectators from each run, though his target is to raise £5,000.
PC Pickles (42), a beat officer in Werneth, said: “My next run will be the Preston half-marathon in January and I’m looking at others in Wilmslow, Blackpool and Manchester. I plan to take part in a run every six weeks or so. I’ll have a break over the Christmas period and then get back to running in January.
“Publicity is important and I hope the public will gradually come to recognise me when I take part in runs. I wear a police helmet and push the barrow, which is a bit of fun but also encourages people to donate.”
PC Pickles has previously run marathons in London, New York and Manchester and has even camped at the Mount Everest base camp for charity. Anyone wishing to donate to the Dr Kershaw’s campaign can call PC Pickles on his police mobile number of 07774 227300.
