Werneth holds talks on academy status
Date published: 26 November 2013
WERNETH Primary could become the latest in the borough to become an academy, run by a sponsor.
The school is consulting with staff and parents about proposals to become part of the Bright Tribe academy trust, based in Stockport.
Bright Tribe is a not-for-profit academy chain approved by the Department for Education to help raise standards in Greater Manchester and Cumbria.
It currently run no academies but has three schools in the process of becoming part of the trust: one in Werneth and two in Cumbria.
The Chronicle reported in June that Werneth was considering becoming an academy after news that Ofsted wanted performance improvements.
The school says as part of Bright Tribe it would benefit from the expertise of an established team.
If approved, it would become an academy early next year.
Parents will be able to discuss the proposal at the school at 2.30pm on Thursday.
There will be a meeting for the community in general at 6pm the same day.
