£120,000 grant for church

MEMBERS of a Failsworth church are celebrating after receiving a £120,000 funding boost to help restore the ailing church clock.
St John’s in Manchester Road will receive the grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to have the clock repaired and two sections of the roof fixed. The work is expected to cost around £133,000 - the shortfall to be met by the church.
Church warden Roy Pollit said the church will record a Christmas single to raise some of the money.
He said: “The people of Failsworth want to see the clock tower restored and the faces repaired.
“We are working with an organist and the church choir to record a Christmas song to raise some of the additional money.”
The song, “Christmas in Failsworth”, was composed by organist Kevin Dean and will be performed by the church choir.
