IN a jam: traffic chaos in Waterloo Street during a funeral
COMPLAINTS about illegal car parking and traffic chaos in Glodwick are being taking seriously, Oldham Council has emphasised.
Reports of parking on double yellow lines - made worse by other drivers then double-parking their vehicles in parallel - have arisen again.
Problems were reported in Waterloo Street when a funeral was underway at a local mosque.
Buses and vans were caught in congestion when some on-coming cars were forced on to the wrong side of the street to pass cars stopped on double-yellow lines.
Drivers on the wrong side of the road then found themselves facing queues of traffic coming out of Oldham town centre - so had to reverse back up Waterloo Street.
Councillor Dave Hibbert, Oldham Council’s Cabinet member for environment and housing, said: “We take the community’s concerns about road safety very seriously.
“We continue to monitor road safety issues in the area through a variety of measures, with officers patrolling the area on foot and targeted use of the safety camera car.
“These are deterrents — people see them and think twice before creating a road hazard — and help us to ensure parking restrictions are observed.”
