Jealous rage dad’s brutal attack
Date published: 28 November 2013
A FATHER attacked his pregnant ex-partner in a jealous rage because he believed she was cheating on him, a court was told.
Car mechanic Ben Schumann lost control, kicked her in the stomach and punched her in the face and head.
Then he told 21-year old Toni Maher: “Look what you’ve made me do,” Manchester Crown Court heard.
Kim Irving, prosecuting, said Schumann, of Thornham Road, Shaw, had separated from his partner around a month before the assault on July 28.
He went to her home in Browning Road, Derker, to see their young son. During the visit he became angry, accused her of seeing someone else and pinned her down on a sofa before punching her in the eye and another 10 to 15 times in the face.
He put his hand over her face so she could hardly breathe, hit her again knocking her to the floor, and kicked her. Toni is expecting twins in the New Year.
Schumann (21) pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was given a 12-month jail sentence suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to do 300 hours of unpaid community service.
