CREATIVE and inspirational language teaching at Oldham Sixth-Form College has been named the best in the country.
The college was overall winner at the British Academy Schools Language Awards — scooping £4,000 presented by EastEnders actor Larry Lamb.
This was as well as the £4,000 it had already received as a regional winner.
The awards mark imaginative language teaching; OSFC was recognised for its LIFT (Languages: Inspiring Futures Together) programme. This has students visiting local schools to encourage them to study a language at GCSE level, and revision sessions for A-level and GCSE students. OSFC students are also about to start running language clubs in primary schools.
Dr Robin Jackson, chief executive of the British Academy, said: “We heartily congratulate the winning projects, whose progress we will follow with great interest.”
OSFC principal Jayne Clarke said: “It’s an outstanding achievement and well-deserved reward for the hard work and commitment from the students and staff involved.”
