Teacher loses cancer battle

TEACHERS and pupils are mourning the death of one of the most popular English teachers at Saddleworth School.
Maureen Glaser (69) lost her fight against cancer despite her effort to continue with her life and work.
Mrs Glaser, from Oldham, taught at Saddleworth from 2004 until the last weeks of her life.
In a letter to parents pupils and carers, Matthew Milburn, the school head, said: “Everyone will remember her as a teacher of the highest standards. She was fiercely intelligent, patient and determined and cared passionately about enabling every child to succeed at the highest level.
“She was a remarkable woman and everyone connected with the school is saddened to hear the news.”
Before joining the school, Mrs Glaser was a lecturer in philosophy at Lancaster, Stirling and Johns Hopkins universities and later taught English to foreign students in Oxford and Germany.
The funeral takes place at Radcliffe Crematorium on Thursday (3.45pm).
