£50,000 funding boost for cancer centre

DELIGHTED volunteers from Oldham Cancer Support Centre in Failsworth are celebrating a “lottery win” of their own: £50,000 from the People’s Millions.
Their Back to the Future project is a two-week support programme designed to help people living with cancer to reintegrate with society.
Sessions cover skin and hair care, hand and foot care, wig care, nutrition and fashion and help with reducing isolation.
Centre manager Berol Vale said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the news. We can’t wait to get started. All the hard work has paid off and we’re so glad to see the whole town get behind us.”
The project is one of four in the region to share £192,562 from the Big Lottery Fund.
Since The People’s Millions began in 2005 the competition has funded 596 diverse community projects costing over £30 million.
