John’s charity skydive - at 70!

Date published: 13 December 2013

A 70-year-old Lees daredevil is glad to have his feet firmly back on the ground after falling from 13,000ft in a charity skydive.

John O’Mara jumped out of the plane strapped to a professional skydiver above Lancaster earlier this year and raised more than £1,400 for Parkinson’s UK.

John, who has Parkinson’s, said: “I decided to do the sponsored skydive to raise money and hopefully to show that being diagnosed isn’t the end of the world, even at my age.

“Doing the jump was one of the scariest but most marvellous experiences of my life — one I’d like to repeat next year, though the people who say I am barmy are probably right!

The money raised with John’s leap will be used to finance two exercise classes at Parkinson’s UK Oldham.
