COUNCIL services and facilities will be scaled down over the festive period.

Out-of-hours services will remain available for urgent situations — but the council wants them used only in genuine emergencies.

The services affected, and emergency contact numbers, will be outlined on the Oldham Council website at www.oldham.gov.uk. Posters will be displayed at affected venues

There will be no household waste collections on Decemebr 25, 26 or January 1. Only households whose collections are on Wednesdays and Thursdays will be affected by changes.

Collections for general rubbish, food and garden waste for all affected households will take place on December 21, 28 and January 4. Affected household will receive leaflets with the details. All other collection days are unchanged.

Councillor Abdul Jabbar, cabinet member for finance, said: “This is the sixth time we have operated the Christmas closure scheme and it has proved successful in previous years. This is a very quiet time so residents should be relatively unaffected. I would urge residents to familiarise themselves with these arrangements.”
