Campaign sets up 500 job chances

Date published: 20 December 2013

Oldham Council’s flagship campaign to Get Oldham Working is well on target with around 500 new job opportunities already created.

This is almost a quarter of the way towards creating 2,015 employment opportunities - ranging from jobs to meaningful work experience — by the end of 2015.

More than 130 jobs have been generated and approximately 70 traineeships produced as the year draws to a close.

To date the campaign has engaged with around 180 local organisations to offer a range of new employment opportunities. Recently 11 new jobs were filled in the adult care, childcare and construction industries.

Councillor Amanda Chadderton, cabinet member for education, employment and skills, said: “The Get Oldham Working scheme is performing really well and it shows that creating 2,015 new employment opportunities is not an unrealistic target.”
