DANGER crossing: parents and pupils outside St Mary’s Primary School which has no road markings
ANXIOUS parents and residents are angry over missing road markings caused by resurfacing work and lengthy delays in repainting.
Mum Louise Kay says there’s “an accident waiting to happen” at St Mary’s primary in Greenfield following resurfacing on Chew Valley Road which has left the roads unmarked since early November.
Louise, who has two children at the school, says parents park at the school entrance — where yellow zig-zag lines should prevent cars from stopping at all. Even cones in the road haven’t stopped some drivers.
“There have been several near misses where children have nearly been hit — it’s very dangerous,” said Louise, of Kinders Lane. “I was told it could be spring before the markings are put down. The embarrassing thing about this is it is parents from the school causing the problem.
“The Clarence pub offers its car park to for school parking but it seems people are too lazy to walk the short distance.”
St Mary’s head teacher Suzanne Hall said safety is paramount and has urged parents to co-operate.
Councillor Dave Hibbert said the authority is now hoping to remedy the situation at St Mary’s later today.
“There are currently three road marking machines in the borough attempting to remove the backlog in the programme,” he said.
