OLDHAM Council staff and councillors donated over £900 and more than half a ton of food to Oldham Foodbank to help families struggling on the breadline over Christmas. Items ranged from tinned food, biscuits, breakfast cereals to festive mince pies and sweets.

The donation brought the total amount of food donated by the council since December 2012 to more than 1.5 tons.

Councillor Jean Stretton, cabinet member for co-operatives and neighbourhoods, said: “I am so proud of the staggering amount of food donated by our staff during the Christmas appeal for Oldham Foodbank, which is such an amazing cause run by a fantastic team of volunteers.

“We managed to collect even more food and money than we did last year and we hope the food donations goes some way to helping people in real need this Christmas.”
