Angela Kirkham: MBE
A TIRELESS Oldham fundraiser has been awarded an MBE.
Angela Kirkham (67), from Chadderton, has raised tens of thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK, as well as £1,000 each year for Children in Need.
The mum-of-two, grandmother of three, set up Victoria Brook Day Nursery in Brook Street, Chadderton, in 1977 after struggling to find childcare for her son.
What started as a small group in one room blossomed into the highly-respected nursery it is today.
Two of her charges over the years were Helen and Lisa Tse - who received their own MBEs for their Sweet Mandarin business in the same honours list.
She said: “I’m so proud to be honoured in this way. I feel like I’ve received it for all the good people living in Chadderton.”
