A THIEF who stole from a 93-year-old woman and violently attacked a pub landlord has been jailed for nine years.

Aaron Nuttall (33), of Cherry Avenue, Alt, was sentenced at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court yesterday after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to robbery and aggravated burglary.

Nuttall went on his violent spree last October, with his first victims a 65-year-old woman and her 93-year-old mother in Greenacres.

The 65 year old opened her back door to let in some fresh air and as she ate breakfast Nuttall walked in and forced the woman into the living room at knifepoint before pushing her to the floor.

An accomplice stood over her while Nuttall went into the bedroom of the 93-year-old victim and rifled through cupboards and took her purse while she lay in bed..

The 65-year-old woman ran out to raise the alarm as the pair ran off.

Minutes later the alarm sounded at the Dog & Partridge pub in Constantine Street, Greenacres. The 51-year-old landlord got up to check and found Nuttall in the bar holding two pool cues.

He ran towards the man and struck him on the chest before biting him, hitting him on the collar bone with a rolling pin and gouging his eyes before running off empty-handed.

Police chased and caught Nuttall

Police officer Andy Parkinson, said: “Nuttall used excessive violence. The fact he is now behind bars and will be for some years offers some reassurance to the public.”
