All change for drivers along new tram line
Date published: 10 January 2014
MOTORISTS are being advised to be aware of changes introduced to town-centre roads to cope with Metrolink trams.
Tram services will begin in the town centre on January 27. Two-way traffic on Union Street has already been restored between Waterloo Street and Rhodes Bank.
Changes will also include a loading bay on Hobson Street and a small taxi rank at Mumps, near to the new tram stop. Alterations will also be made to bays on Union Street between Greenhill Passage and Rhodes Bank.
Union Street has become one-way between Princes Street and Rhodes Bank heading west, with the creation of a contraflow tram lane. Bow Street, between Yorkshire Street and Rhodes Bank, is also one-way eastbound.
A bus lane, with exemptions for hackney carriages and bicycles, will be introduced on the north side of Yorkshire Street from Horsedge Street to Wright Street.
