CONTROVERSIAL plans to demolish Phoenix Mill in Failsworth to build 89 homes have been put on hold.
Following protests from some of the 30 small firms on the site, Oldham Council’s planning committee last night adjourned the demolition plan for further talks. Businesses include dental services, garages and storage firms.
Applicant Mooney Rodgers wants to build 89 homes on the site, and has said it will try to help businesses relocate.
A planning inspector’s report in 2011 said the Phoenix site was no longer suitable for employment uses and and many buildings were in a poor state.
