Do your bit to get a new home

OLDHAM Council is putting residents who “contribute to improving their community” at the front of the queue for a new development of houses.
The first eight homes at Keswick Avenue, Fitton Hill — built as part of the £113 million Gateways to Oldham PFI scheme — will be ready to move into from March.
And the local authority is encouraging Oldhamers in employment or training, or who make some form of contribution to improving their community, to apply for one.
A further 70 homes for affordable rent, currently under construction, will be available later this year.
Councillor Dave Hibbert, Cabinet member for environment and housing, said: “We are very keen to ensure that people who do their bit for our community are recognised when it comes to allocating these homes.
“While we recognise the importance of meeting housing needs, most of these houses will be offered to those who are making a valuable contribution in their communities.
