Switch on to greater energy savings

Oldham householders are being invited to sign up for an energy-saving scheme that could slash their bills by £250.
The council’s collective energy switching scheme is a bulk-buying system supported by the 10 Greater Manchester local authorities. Everyone who registers an interest will be given a range of money-saving options.
Councillor Arooj Shah, deputy Cabinet member for communication and campaigns, said: “I’d urge anyone interested in saving money to take advantage of the scheme. The more people sign up, the better the deals will be.”
A pair of similar energy-switching schemes last year helped 4,577 households to collectively cut £500,000 from bills. It is hoped even greater savings can be made this year.
Residents will be asked for basic information, such as which gas and electricity suppliers they use and how much they pay a month. The organisers will hold a reverse auction on March 3, when suppliers bid for their business by offering the best price.
