Teaching jobs cut
Date published: 31 January 2014
SIX full-time teaching jobs are to be axed at Newman RC College because of a fall in pupil numbers and curriculum changes.
The cuts will be made in non-core subjects (not English, maths or science), but at the same time seven new full-time equivalent posts will be created in those core subjects. There will also be a reduction of 13 support staff.
The Chadderton secondary’s budget has been reduced because it has a smaller intake than Our Lady’s and St Augustine schools, which it replaced in 2011.
Government curriculum changes also require more time to be spent on English, maths and science.
It is expected that other schools and colleges will also have to remodel their staffing structures.
