Aberdeen ankles

A DEDICATED runner has completed an incredible 325 miles from Oldham to Aberdeen to raise cash for Cancer Care UK.

Tony Muir, from Fitton Hill, covered between 50 and 60 miles each day for six days to reach the Scottish city where he was born, in memory of grandparents who died from the disease.

Mr Muir (31) of Fir Tree Avenue, said: “Since my grandparents died I’ve been involved with a few different events to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

“I moved to Oldham from Aberden 13 years ago so thought I’d run back there for charity. I ran 60 miles on the first day. The next stages took me to Carlisle, Abbington, Kirkcaldy, Brechin and then Aberdeen. Getting up on the second day was tough, but the third day was the toughest, physically. After then, as Aberdeen got closer, things became a bit easier.

“But the final day was really tough on my legs. My knees felt like they were ready to fall apart. My legs were in bits. So when I reached Aberdeen it was a big relief.”

Tony’s original target was to raise £1,000, but he has so far collected an impressive £1,600.
