Daredevil Shaw teacher Steve Hill has won a special award for raising £40,000 for charity in nine years.
Steve (42), deputy head at St Joseph’s primary school, has been recognised for being a “fantastic community role model” and for his annual “Mr Hill’s Challenge”.
He has raised money for a wealth of charities, including Cancer Research UK, Help for Heroes, The Christie Charity, Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease.
His pupils help choose the charities and his challenges: last year he trekked to Mount Kinabalu in Borneo.
Mr Hill said: “I am thrilled and honoured to have won this award. As a teacher I do my very best to inspire and challenge the children and help them achieve their full potential. To be recognised for doing what I love is very flattering indeed and this award is just as much for the whole school and the amazing children I work with.”
Halifax launched the awards to celebrate unsung heroes who give something back to the community. Hundreds of nominations were received.
