Get your skates on and tram it to the town centre

BRASS bands, roller girls and a religious blessing ensured the first weekend of trams running through Oldham town centre was a resounding success.
Shoppers were keen to test the new line, which opened last Monday and saw the introduction of four new stops at Mumps, Oldham Central, King Street and Westwood.
Passengers getting off the tram at Oldham Central, next to Sainsbury’s in Union Street, were greeted by town centre mascots. More than 1,000 goodie bags were handed out.
A host of brass bands entertained crowds outside Sainsbury’s and kids were kept entertained by free face painting, balloon modelling and arts activities.
