SHOCK new figures reveal deaths from cancer are higher in Greater Manchester than the rest of Britain.
Cancer Research UK said 18 Greater Manchester residents die from cancer every day — around 6,500 a year, a death toll 10 per cent higher than the UK average.
But survival rates continue to improve. The charity heralded the Manchester Cancer Research Centre, due to open later this year, as a major step forward.
Gretaer Manchester’s high death toll is said to be due to the high prevalence of smokers — seven per cent above the national average.
