TAKEN flight: Eddie the wooden eagle
A family has launched an appeal to find Eddie the heavyweight eagle.
The hand-carved bird, linked to Saddleworth Summer Show, has vanished from the garden of the Sharples family in Ladcastle, Dobcross.
Eddie — named affectionately after one of the family’s three children — weighs about 110lb and was a favourite landmark with walkers.
Businessman Allan Sharples bought the eagle from a craftsman for an undisclosed sum at last year’s Summer Show.
He said: “It’s a mystery why Eddie has taken flight. We placed him firmly on a plinth made from a tree stump. He’s really heavy.”
Mr Sharples’ wife, Ria, said: “It’s hard to believe he’s simply vanished into thin air.”
Anyone who spots the eagle can report it to the Saddleworth neighbourhood policing team through the 101 service.”
