A SADDLEWORTH village has praised a police constable’s initiative to help to protect a sub postmistress.
Security cameras have been fitted outside Mandy Gorey’s store in Chew Valley Road, Greenfield, after a written plea from PC Dave Pickles to post office security officials.
PC Pickles told Greenfield and Grasscroft Residents’ Association he had secured the cameras to monitor outside the post office and the cash machine. The office was hit by armed robbers in November, when Mandy and an assistant were held at gunpoint by two masked raiders.
PC Pickles said: “I sent a detailed letter to post office security officers telling them about the situation and asking what could be done. We were campaigning for it before the burglary - and Mandy is chuffed we’ve finally got it.”
Mandy added: “I am so pleased the cameras have been installed. Every cash machine should have one.
“We’ve not really had any problems at the machine in the past, but the camera will pick up on other things in the street as well and so generally make things safer.”
