Bridge work derails drivers
Date published: 11 February 2014
DRIVERS between Oldham and Ashton face temporary road closures this spring and summer to allow for railway improvements.
Network Rail is rebuilding the Oldham Road bridge above the Manchester to Huddersfield line, part of a £400 million electrification project.
The bridge is one of four being rebuilt in Tameside to create space for power lines, which will be used from December 2016.
The work on Oldham Road Bridge will run between March 1 and July 31. From Mar 1-April 19, there will be a single lane closure on Oldham Road; from Apl 19-May 24 the road will be closed both ways, followed by single-lane closure until July.
