VICTIMS of domestic violence are supporting a campaign by Oldham Council ahead of Valentine’s Day.
Last year support was offered to 338 victims of domestic violence in Oldham. The new campaign offers practical and emotional support for victims and witnesses of domestic violence, and includes an online video, Catherine’s Story, which highlights the abuse a woman endured for 10 years (www.oldham.gov.uk/dv).
Victims and witnesses going through the courts or legal system can receive one-to-one support by calling Community Safety Services on 0161-770 1573. The service also provides specialist advice and support for those experiencing or at risk of honour-based violence, such as forced marriage and female genital mutilation.
Alternately for support in relation to domestic violence, people can contact the Greater Manchester Domestic Violence Helpline on 0161-636 7525; the 24-hour National Domestic Violence Helpline 0808 2000247; The Men’s Advice Line on 0808 8010327.
