MP helps pupils enter competition

OLDHAM MP Michael Meacher has given children a helping hand in their attempt to influence the corridors of power.

The Oldham West and Royton MP visited Whitegate End Primary School, in Chadderton, to help pupils with their entry in a Parliament Education Service competition.

The contest asks pupils: “If you could make one law, what would it be?”

Pupils chose to suggest every child should learn first aid from the age of seven.

Mr Meacher, who visited the school with Oldham councillor Amanda Chadderton, said: “I’m delighted with the initiative taken by pupils at the school. I’m in support of first aid being taught in schools and I think it is an excellent idea to try and promote involvement in the democratic process this way.”
