Fresh support for stroke-hit families
Date published: 18 February 2014
A LEADING charity is inviting families and carers of stroke survivors to attend a new weekly support group which launches tomorrow.
Six sessions will provide practical advice to relatives and friends who care for stroke victims.
Denise Savage (58), from Failsworth, attended carer-support sessions from November, 2012, to March, 2013, at the Integrated Care Centre in Oldham.
Her son Steven had his first stroke aged 27 and a second, massive one 18 months later which left him unable to speak. Steven moved back to his mother’s home and needed round-the-clock care.
Denise said: “I found the course very helpful. While caring for Steven I felt very stressed, emotional and under a lot of strain. It’s comforting to know that other people are going through the same experience and the sessions provide an opportunity to socialise.”
The sessions will be held each Wednesday from 2-4pm at the Integrated Care Centre in Radcliffe Street. To book a place or for more details, contact Clare Carroll on 0161-621 3583.
