Boxing club delight at grant of £35,000

Grant is great news, says Oldham Boxing Club director Eric Noi

A PROJECT to install a new roof at Oldham Boxing Club has received a funding boost from a waste-management firm’s trust.

The Veolia Environmental Trust has awarded the boxing club a grant of £35,000 towards installing a new roof on its Victoria House base in Greaves Street.

Club director Eric Noi said: “This grant is great news. It means we can push the project forward and start the much-needed reroofing.”

The boxing club hosts a range of fitness, health, careers and advice services and recently received a cash boost courtesy of Greater Manchester Police and the head of Oldham police division, Chief Supt Catherine Hankinson.

Veolia will now work with Oldham Boxing Club to finalise the details of the project, including the starting date for work.

Paul Taylor, executive director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, said: “This is a fantastic start to 2014, both for us and the projects we have awarded grants to. This Oldham scheme will give a new lease of life to the boxing club building.”
