Signing ceremony for ‘GM’

Officials have taken part in a special signing ceremony to launch building work on the new Oldham £9m university technical college - the GM.

The party signed one of the steel supports of the new building, which is being built in the Oldham College grounds. A new type of school for 14 to 19-year-olds, it will specialise in sustainable engineering and construction.

Pupils will combine vocational courses and technical disciplines with GCSEs and A-levels.

The UTC is backed by Bolton University and is sponsored by businesses.

Oldham College principal Alun Francis took part in yesterday’s ceremony with GM principal Chris Hill and Andrew Dwan, managing director of Equity Solutions and Partners, the main business sponsor.

The GM will create 40 jobs over three years and is currently recruiting both students and staff.
