Budget cuts in the spotlight
Date published: 21 February 2014
THE cabinet will discuss budget proposals for the 2014-2015 financial year at Monday’s meeting.
Savings of £23 million had to be taken from the budget, including areas such as the reduction of red tape and duplication of services, plus any remaining non-essential spending in commercial services, neighbourhoods and senior management.
More effective work practices and an increased use of technology have also been included for their contribution to budget savings as a way to maximise the council’s delivery and minimise any reductions that could have an impact on frontline services and the most vulnerable in the borough.
The budget proposals will be discussed at the cabinet meeting before being passed to full council on March 5.
