A PROUD daughter has paid tribute to her late father — a Second World War veteran and a former Oldham councillor.
James William Boardman, known as Jim, died of pneumonia on Monday last week at the Royal Oldham Hospital. He was 88. The passionate Latics fan joined Lees Urban District Council in 1967 as a Conservative councillor, and served until the council was dissolved at the 1974 boundary changes.
Jim was chairman of the council in 1971.
He is survived by his daughter Alison Cockcroft (58), her husband Bill and granddaughter Helen.
Alison said: “Throughout his life, Jim was a perfect gentleman. Polite, friendly, caring, loving, amusing, intelligent, patient, generous. We have been blessed and he will be sadly missed.”
