Hill’s charity angels

A STAR class of fundraisers at Shaw’s St Joseph’s Primary School is celebrating after hitting the £40,000 mark for charity - £10,000 of it raised since September!

Deputy head Steve Hill’s year six class has raised the phenomenal amount over recent years with a constant stream of fundraising events in support of his annual adventures.

Steve said: “I enjoy a challenge and I like an adventure, and over the last few years my classes and I have used these personal challenges and the children’s enthusiasm to raise just over £40,000 for charity.

“Last July I decided to set myself the challenge of trekking through the jungles of Borneo and climbing Mount Kinabalu — the highest mountain in South East Asia.

“As in previous years, together with my class, we decided to use the Borneo challenge as the catalyst to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, PKD (polycystic kidney disease) Charity, CAFOD (Catholic Association for Overseas Development) and “Supporting Shane” a young boy in our Year two class with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.”

The latest of “Mr Hill’s Challenges,” as they are called, grabbed the children’s imagination and they worked tirelessly to boost the money he raised through sponsorship.

Steve said: “The children have been brilliant. They have worked so hard to help raise this amazing total for these wonderful charities. It has been a real team effort.”
