Springhead merger plans rejected

CONTROVERSIAL plans to merge two schools in Springhead have been rejected.
The proposed amalgamation of Springhead Infant and Nursery School and Knowsley Junior School — both in Cooper Street — was opposed by many parents and staff.
The result of a consultation last July was sent to the Government’s Schools Adjudicator, who turned down the proposal.
Councillor Chadderton said: “These proposals were made in good faith based on an aspiration to secure the best possible education provision for the local community. The findings showed strong allegiances existed to each school, which we fully respect.
