Cash machines scam arrests

TWO men have been arrested and bailed over “skimming” offences at ATMs in Mossley.
Police have reported an increase in “Lebanese Loop” skimming devices. The latest scams hit ATMS at the Co-operative supermarket in Mossley and Barclays bank in Ashton. Post Office ATMs have also been hit.
The devices usually have a metal or plastic sleeve which blocks the ATM card slot and makes it appear the card has been swallowed. The thieves can retrieve the card when its owner leaves.
The pair were arrested in connection with incidents at the Co-operative machine in Mossley on February 23.
Det Cons Andrew Bailey, said: “These devices are simple are often difficult to identify. Offenders are quick to try to use any cards they take - in most cases they try to remove the maximum allowance, usually £300.
“People can take a simple, but hugely-effective step, to prevent falling victim, and that is to cover the keypad when entering the pin.
“Please be vigilant when using an ATM and if you suspect one has been tampered with inform the bank and police.”
