Travellers move on

TRAVELLERS left a site in Royton yesterday after action by the police and Oldham Council.
A group of caravans and other vehicles arrived at Turf Lane behind Bee Mill on Saturday afternoon.
Councillor Steve Bashforth raised the issue with police and he and Councillor Marie Bashforth visited residents near Turf Lane to give out information and mini-alarms for home doors and windows.
Police and council environment staff visited the site on Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday, an Oldham Council spokesman said: “Our environmental officers attended the site again this morning and the travellers have since left the site.
“Our officers attended the site over the weekend with the police, which was part of a joint-working procedure. The police ordered them to move off the site within 24 hours and they have since left.”
