CONCERNED residents lost their battle to halt plans for a scrap yard next door to a housing estate last night.
A site at the Old Saw Mills in Hollinwood has been vacant for several years and will now be used to dismantle cars and sell parts, councillors approved.
South Chadderton councillor Joy Wrigglesworth was against the plan, which residents claimed would increase traffic and noise pollution.
She said: “The only real way to the site would be through Albert Street, which has a number of terrace houses.
Caroline Tamworth, for the company hoping to occupy the site, said 97 per cent of its trade would be online; only a handful of cars would be delivered to the site each week.
“Noise pollution will be minimal.”
