Jury considers verdict
Date published: 20 March 2014
THE jury in the trial of a man who killed his wife in Chadderton last year is set to retire to consider its verdict today.
Jahingir Nazar stabbed Farkhanda Younis, known as Jabeen, 19 times in the neck at their Bamford Street home in the early hours of April 19, last year. Nazar has pleaded guilty to manslaughter but not guilty to murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Yesterday the defence closed its case and reminded the court that expert witnesses had agreed Nazar was suffering from a recognised mental condition.
The prosecution closed its case by suggesting Nazar’s defence of diminished responsibility was a lie - and the unusual speed of his recovery was inconsistent with a man suffering from sever depression.
