Polski Sklep: second raid
POLICE and trading standards officers have raided two town centre shops over alleged illegal cigarette sales - one for the second time in two months.
Yorkshire Street customers were left outside the Polski Sklep shop on Wednesday as officers with a sniffer dog emerged with bags of cigarettes after a tip-off about illegal or counterfeit goods. More than 23,000 cigarettes and 8kg of rolling tobacco were seized.
The council wouldn’t reveal the name of the other shop raided as investigations are continuing.
Last month illegal and counterfeit tobacco worth around £10,000 was found in the Polski Sklep shop, which specialises in East European and Middle Eastern goods - the biggest single haul of illegal and counterfeit tobacco in the borough.
