MP Debbie repays £900 expenses overspend
Date published: 25 March 2014
OLDHAM East and Saddleworth MP Debbie Abrahams has repaid more than £900 in expenses after an overspend in accommodation costs.
The Labour MP repaid £933.37 when she discovered her claim breached rules.
A spokesman for the MP said: “Debbie had gone over her accommodation budget as a result of moving from one flat to another. She contacted the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority and made an immediate repayment.”
The MP claimed £73,956 in expenses last year, ranking her among the highest claimants in the country - though when staffing costs are included her total amount is only 66th-highest.
:: This story originally suggested the MP was ordered to repay the money by IPSA, but this was not the case.
