Swine flu killed bride Joanne
Date published: 14 April 2014
AN inquest has determined a young Oldham mum died from swine flu.
Joanne Oliver (31), of McKie Close, Oldham, died in January 2011 after a five-week battle in three different hospitals.
An Manchester Coroner’s Court inquest recently ended with a long “narrative” verdict that covered every aspect of the case without giving a cause of death or traditional verdict. An official later said swine flu had been the primary cause of death.
Joanne was referred to the Royal Oldham Hospital by her GP on December 13, 2010, with severe aching, breathing trouble and vomiting.
The sales assistant at Next was transferred to Freeman Hospital in Newcastle a week later to receive specialist oxygen treatment. She died hours after being flown back to Greater Manchester in an air ambulance.
