AN Oldham boy who suffered a serious brain injury after being struck by a car has returned to mainstream school.
Adam McQuillan (10) was seriously injured at a pedestrian crossing on Abbeyhills Road near his former home in Roundthorn in 2011. Doctors feared he might not survive multiple skull fractures and a serious brain injury. Adam spent 10 weeks in a coma and eight months in hospital.
But now the youngster, of Queensway, Greenfield, is enjoying life at St Anne’s RC School, Greenacres after being at Oldham’s specialist Kingfisher School.
Anita Claxton, Adam’s mother, said: “Adam’s loving being back at school again — and also being back in the Delph Cub Scouts. It’s great to see the changes and for him to be making so many friends.
“However Adam has been an absolute star throughout. Whenever things seemed darkest, he would just keep fighting. His boundless determination gave the family the hope and strength we needed.”
His family has since won compensation to help to meet the cost of his care.
With the help of therapy funded by the money, Adam is now able to take his first steps towards independence.
