THE waste management company which controls the fortunes of Oldham’s most controversial landfill site has laid out plans for its future.
The move will see significant changes in the landscape at High Moor at Scouthead, where operations ceased in December.
Managed by Veolia Environmental Services, the sprawling site has been plagued by controversy for years over vile smells and led to an Evening Chronicle dossier on problems being presented to a government minister.
Now Veolia’s newly-appointed aftercare manager, John Molyneux, has outlined the site restoration plan, which will lead to a review and likely timescale for completion.
He said: “The revised profile has been approved by the planning authority and since the start of the year works have been preparing the site for restoration.
“A contractor has been appointed and the main capping and restoration works have commenced with capping due to continue until the autumn. Residents will notice vehicles continuing to visit the site as there is a requirement to import restoration soil into 2015.
“All environmental monitoring of the site will continue for many years into the future.”
