Carol Cawkwell: new life in France
HEAD teacher Carol Cawkwell is to retire after nearly nine years at Hathershaw College.
She will step down at the end of the school year and plans to move to France. She succeeded David Ashley as head in 2005, joining from a leadership post at a school in Rotherham.
Mrs Cawkwell said: “I will be really sorry to leave Hathershaw; my nine years here have been the happiest of my career and I will truly miss the students and staff. I wish them, and the wider Oldham community, all the very best for the future.”
Councillor Ateeque Ur-Rehman, chairman of the academy’s governors, said: “Carol has been our most successful principal ever. She was the driving force behind the establishment of West Oldham Trust and more recently the conversion of the school to an academy. She will be remembered as a principal who always had the best interests of the students, staff and wider community at heart.”
