Sinking in the rain

A GREEN-FINGERED First Choice Homes resident who spent hundreds of pounds on improving her garden gets a sinking feeling after heavy rain.

Heavy downpours have left the back garden of Mandy Makin’s Furness Avenue flat in Alt flooded - with no sign of it drying out.

Ms Makin (57) said: “It’s really upsetting. I’ve always had a lovely garden but every time it rains I get pools of water. I’ve tried to solve it but nothing seems to help.

“Even if it is light rain I still get pools all over the garden but this time it was just horrendous and it nearly covered the whole garden. It just seems to be getting worse and worse.

“I really enjoy being out in the garden but I can’t now and it makes me want to cry when I look at it.”

Ms Makin has lived at her home for 13 years. A First Choice Homes spokesman said: “According to our records there has never been an issue raised in relation to a waterlogged garden.

“The garden is the responsibility of the tenant, but we can send out an inspector to investigate."
