WATER floods one of Uppermill’s main streets
THIS dramatic picture captures one of Uppermill’s main streets under inches of water yesterday.
Water blew off a grid cover, flooding parts of Court Street and High Street. One shopkeeper said: “When I arrived at work at around 8am the water was already flooding the High Street.
“The water was running everywhere. People were having to be careful and drive slowly or walk right around it.”
A team of workmen sorted out the flooding within a couple of hours.
Mark Donaghy of United Utilities, explained: “The flooding was caused by a burst on our water main in Court Street. We went to the street as soon as we heard and managed to stop the water escaping.
“We’re really sorry for any inconvenience.”.
Water supplies were maintained despite the burst.
