Company to face trial over death
Date published: 20 May 2014
AN Oldham company will face trial at Manchester Crown Court after the death of an employee, crushed by a three-tonne piece of steel being lifted by an overhead crane.
Michael Wickstead (63), from Radcliffe was working at Refinery Supplies Ltd on Chadderton’s Greengate Industrial Estate when two overhead cranes collided.
The Health and Safety Executive brought criminal proceedings against the firm — which produces engineering equipment for the refining industry — following an investigation into Mr Wickstead’s death in July 2011.
The firm has been charged with a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 which relates to failing to ensure the safety of employees.
