A CRICKET club president is determined not to let his club’s milestone 150th anniversary be spoiled by suspected arson.

Werneth Cricket and Bowling Club was targeted again on Tuesday afternoon and the bowling hut destroyed by fire. The Chamber Road club had suffered in March, when vandals tore up spectator seats.

Club president Howard Dronsfield said it could cost up to £1,000 to replace the hut.

He added: “It’s a mess. Money is tight as everybody knows, so it has set us back again.

“We’ve tried to make the club reasonable, sound and nice to look at and people are just holding us back.”

Despite the recent attacks, Mr Dronsfield is determined the anniversary event will be a success.
